In cases where there is not enough time to apply for a new machine-readable passport, or a machine-readable passport has been applied for but not received in time for travel, an Emergency passport can be issued. These passports are generally only issued with validity time for the specific travel. The maximum validity period for an emergency passport is 12 months. An airline ticket showing date of forthcoming travel must be produced.
Emergency passports must be applied for in person at either the nearest Norwegian Honorary Consulate or at the Embassy in Canberra. The passport fee is to be paid to the foreign mission upon submission of the application. Please refer to the fee schedule on the general information page. /visas/visas/New+fee+schedule.htm
If an emergency passport is required, please make an appointment at the Embassy or the most convenient Honorary Consulate. Documentation to be provided is the same as for new machine-readable passports, with the exception of passport photographs and the airline tickets. Two (2) photos are required for emergency passports and a paid-for airline ticket must be produced. An airline itinerary is not sufficient.
Please note that it is not be possible to travel to USA with these hand-written passports unless they contain a USA visa.
