As of 1 March 2011, there are 2202 Norwegian students studying in Australia, according to Lånekassen, the Norwegian State Education Loan Fund. This is an increase of 1.5% from the year before. 1438 of these are full degree students, while 764 are doing a semester abroad. In New Zealand, there are 187 students in total, which means a decrease of 19% from last year. These 187 consist of 59 full time students and 128 Norwegian students undertaking a semester abroad. The actual figures will be somewhat higher. Papua New Guinea has 1 Norwegian student doing a semester abroad, while Fiji has 1 doing their full degree, and 1 for semester abroad. Tonga and Cook Islands do not have any Norwegian students as of 1 March 2011.
In 2009/2010 there were 2170 Norwegian students studying in Australia. 768 of these were undertaking a semester abroad, while 1402 were undertaking their whole degree in Australia. This is an increase of 6% from the year before. In 09/10 there were 70 Norwegian students in New Zealand undertaking their whole degree according to the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund.
About half of the Norwegian students in Australia and New Zealand are members of ANSA - the Association of Norwegian Students Abroad. The Embassy cooperates closely with ANSA Australia.
