Scandinavian Art Exhibition Explores the Hidden

10/10/2008 // The Royal Norwegian Embassy and the Swedish Embassy in cooperation with the Australian National University proudly presents the exhibition "Structures - Imaginations About the Hidden" by Scandinavian artist Ingela Valtind.

A Swedish citizen who has lived in Northern Norway for 37 years, Valtind draws inspiration from Scandinavian seasons and nature as she explores the subconscious through her own unique approach to textile art. A lifetime of following these passions has produced a range of impressive artworks which now for the first time is available for Australians to see.

Valtind is a seasoned artist at home. She has taught at the Art School in Kabelvåg, has served on several boards and juries and has held exhibitions all over Norway and Sweden since 1975. When she was invited by the Australian National University to hold lectures about her artform and fill a role as a guest artist at the Textiles Department of the School of Art, she decided it was the perfect opportunity to share some of her favourite pieces with the rest of the world.

In addition to working with teachers and students at ANU, Ingela is planning on travelling around Australia to gather impressions and inspiration.

"Structures - Imaginations About the Hidden" wasofficially opened 6pm, Tuesday 7th October by Head of School of Art Gordon Bull, His Excellency Ambassador of Norway Lars A. Wensell and His Excellency Ambassador-Designate of Sweden Sven-Olof Petersson in the Foyer Gallery at the Australian National University School of Arts Gallery. The exhibition will be on display at the Gallery until October 11, and then in the School of Arts Library and the Embassy of Sweden until the end of the month.
