Australian pianist Sean Foran best known in Australia as the main composer and pianist from the jazz trio Misinterprotato, and APRA Professional Award winner for 2009, has combined with stunning Norwegian vocalist Kari Bleivik and masterful Belgian clarinetist Joachim Badenhorst to form Vehere. The trio formed in late 2008 after Foran and Bleivik put together a group to perform new improvised based music while Foran was studying his Masters in Leeds, UK thanks to a Brisbane City Council Artist Fellowship and Ian Potter Cultural Trust Grant. An obvious choice was the clarinetist Badenhorst, who Foran had worked with previously in Canada, at the Banff Workshop in improvised music. The initial chemistry at shows and recordings in the UK in October 2008 was stunning.
The trio draw upon their various cultural influences to create music that conjures up sounds of scandinavian folk music, contemporary improvised music, and a range of jazz, world, folk traditions and ideas.
Their debut album “UNRAVELLING” recorded in the UK in February 2009 features new compositions by the award winning composer Sean Foran plus thoughtful re-imaginings of music by Nick Drake, swedish folk songs and obscure jazz standards. In a record that echos the sounds of classic ECM releases but with a fresh approach, “UNRAVELLING” makes for enthralling listening. The trio draw you into their world with gentle vocal melodies and emotive ballads.
