Nordic Ecology: Steps into the North

02/09/2009 // 28 July to 9 August the Nordic Ecology exhibition offers Melbournites a rare opportunity to see art from the very opposite part of the world. Displaying pieces donated by established Norwegian artists, the exhibition's sales proceeds will go towards a cross-cultural exchange program for young artists and musicians from indigenous communities in Australia and Norway.

Art in Norway is made between fjords, mountains and valleys. Curated by Yenny Huber and Sarah Rainbird Nordic Ecology: Steps into the North is a unique opportunity to see an outstanding selection of works by young and established artists from Norway.

Norway’s democratic infrastructure gives its artists the freedom to form strong and independent art practices, allowing the creation of a conflicting diversity in a small and relatively remote art scene.

Also included in the exhibition are field recordings from Nepal by musician Geir Jenssen. The delicate sounds of this work create a politically charged listening experience, exploring questions of internationalism and global ecology.

All artists have kindly donated their work with all the proceeds from the sale of works going towards the establishment of a unique cross-cultural exchange program for young artists and musicians from Indigenous communities in Australia and Norway.
