Last weekend the embassy successfully hosted an exhibition on the Norwegian polar pioneer, Roald Amundsen, at the Australian Antarctic Festival. Ambassador Kløvstad officially opened the exhibition on the world-known explorer’s journey to the South Pole, underlining Norway’s historic relations to the Antarctic continent. Federal senators, Tasmanian MPs, Norwegian businesses and members of the scientific community attended the ceremonious opening at the Brooke Street Pier in Hobart.

On the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People the Norwegian Embassy wishes to pay a special tribute to the Sámi, Maori and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, indigenous to Norway, New Zealand and Australia, respectively. This International Day promotes the Indigenous agenda across the world.

On Saturday 19 September, the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Canberra participated in Windows to the World, a series of open days at Embassies and High Commissions in order to offer the community and visitors a glimpse into the diplomatic community of Canberra and the diverse cultures it represents. For the first time the festival came to Canberra for a weekend of fascinating documentaries and films focusing on climate change.
