Grieg recital at the National Carillon, ACT

The Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg died on the 4th of September 1907. To mark the 100th anniversary of his death, a recital of Grieg`s music will be played by the carillonist George Howe at the National Carillion, ACT on Tuesday 4 September 2007

During his lifetime Grieg gained worldwide recognition as a composer. His music, words and ideas are still relevant today and he continues to open doors both in Norway and abroad.

Grieg had a strong influence on the Australian composer Percy Grainger. The two composers had a brief friendship that began in London in May 1906. Grieg`s death on September 4th 1907, soon after he had essentially named Grainger as his preferred interpreter, served as a boost to the young pianist`s career. Grainger went on to make his name as the greatest living exponent of Grieg`s Piano Concerto, which he performed over the next five decades, making his own edition of the work in 1919.
