The Norwegian Memorial Fund provides sholarships for Australian and New Zealand citizens aged 18-22 to study for one year at a Norwegian Folk High School. Closing date for applications is 1st November 2008 for the school year 2009-2010.
10/10/2008 :: On the 25th anniversary of the Liberation of Norway, 8 May 1945, the Norwegian Storting (National Assembly) established a commemorative fund called the Memorial Fund of 8 May 1970. This fund provides scholarships for young people from over 30 countries to attend for one years residence at a Norwegian Folk High School.
AIM OF FOLK HIGH SCHOOLS
The Norwegian Folk High Schools provide different courses of study to the regular education system. The student will receive a diploma at the completion of their study detailing the activities they have participated in.
Folk High Schools do not issue degrees.
WHO MAY APPLY
The bursaries are only open to citizens from foreign countries. No holder of a Norwegian passport may apply. Applicants must be between 18 and 22 years of age and your country must be among those selected for this years bursary . Australia and New Zealand are on this list every year. Language skills in English/and or Norwegian are also important.
Special consideration will be given to those students who show an active interest in social, humanitarian or cultural activities.
WHAT DOES THE BURSARY COVER
Bursaries will cover food and lodging and some excursions. There is no tuition fee. The cost of travel to and from Norway must normally be paid by the applicant.
SCHOOL YEAR and ACCOMMODATION
The school year at Folk High Schools in Norway runs from mid-August to mid-May. Successful applicants will be required to accept the general rules of the educational institutions which have admitted them.
About 30% of the folk high schools in Norway accept memorial fund students. This means that you will attend one of these schools. The fund will select the school for you. Accommodation will be provide by the school selected.
