Norwegians give more than 210 million NOK to UNICEF’s work to help children affected by HIV and AIDS around the world, in this year’s TV-Gala “Unite for Children”.
23/10/2007 :: ”Every 15 second a new child lose its parents. Less than 10 per cent of these orphans receive any form of help”, informs TV-aksjonen (TV-Gala), Norway’s largest annually fundraiser.
Record breaking
This motivated the Norwegian people to give almost 45 NOK each out of their own pockets. This marks a new record for the annual TV-Gala, which each year is selecting a different cause and a humanitarian organisation to receive the proceeds.

Global fight against HIV and AIDS
The funds this year will go to children affected by HIV and AIDS in Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Ukraine, Jamaica, and Vietnam.
UNICEF’s global fight against HIV and AIDS is seeking to preventing HIV spreading from mother to child, medicating children, preventing HIV spreading among children and young people, as well as establishing a better system of caring for orphaned and vulnerable children.

Sports for development
The goal of “Unite for Children” goes beyond emergency aid. The fundraiser aims to establish healthy arenas and societies around the affected children. Hence, UNICEF Norway invited the Norwegian Olympic Committee and Confederation of Sports and the organization Right To Play as partners, to highlight the importance of integrating sports when engaging in health, education, and social development efforts.
The fundraiser is organised by UNICEF in partnership with the Norwegian Broadcasting Association, the Norwegian Olympic Committee and Right To Play.
